Banff Engagement (Two Jack Lake)
Chelsea + Ryan

Chelsea and Ryan were visiting Canmore and Banff from their home in Toronto. On this trip, Ryan proposed! We planned out their engagement session and decided to head to Two Jack Lake for sunset photos.
We lucked out and basically had the area to ourselves. As much as I love people, I love not having to photoshop strangers out of the back of engagement photos. We had perfect conditions and only a little bit of a breeze.
It was so fun showing these two around the area in Banff. They definitely don’t have mountains like this back at home! I often find myself taking for granted the fact that I live here. Whenever I can, I catch myself and try to remind myself to appreciate the beautiful natural surroundings.
Warning- engagement sessions are basically like working out since I’ll make you run for photos! There’s something about motion, playing, and interacting with each other that makes the photos look natural and candid as opposed to overly posed and forced.
We took in the wide views of mountains and sky as we wandered around Banff.
Want to know a funny thing? The majority of my couples ‘warn’ me beforehand that they’re awkward in photos and not photogenic. Spoiler- you aren’t! As long as your photographer is making you comfortable and encouraging you to interact with your partner, you’ll get gold.
Ask me how often I end up squatting in lakes or streams to get an interesting low angle during engagement sessions. Go ahead- ask. (It’s basically always.) I’m a firm believer that unexpected angles can make an image much more interesting since it’s not how you usually view something.
We made sure to get weird too, of course! That is my specialty, after all. One of my favourite prompts is to yell out at the couples to pull a weird face. After that, I tell them to look at each other. Right after that, there’s always laughter and authentic smiles. It’s the perfect photo hack.
The cuteness. I CANNOT.
I’m always a sucker for a good black and white photo. The drama of a black and white conversion on certain image draws more attention to the emotion and lighting in the photo.
Sunset is always the best time for photos. The soft golden lighting along with colours in the sky are the perfect recipe for a dreamy photo.
I had exactly zero self restraint with this adorable Banff engagement session and deeeefffffinitely went a bit overboard with how many images I sent. That’s whatcha get for being so cute!
Thanks so much again for coming out to the mountains and a million congratulations on your engagement, Chelsea and Ryan! -Kalla
