If you’re getting married in the mountains you want the full view of the mountains and NOT to stare at a wall indoors, right?! Here are my top 10 wedding/elopement venues and locations from a local Canmore photographer! These venues all feature outdoors spaces for your ceremony and some offer indoor areas for receptions as well. These can accommodate weddings/elopements year-round in any season. Enjoy!

1. Silvertip Resort - This resort offers a picturesque setting with panoramic mountain vistas. The ceremony location overlooks the Bow Valley, offering wide views of the sky and mountains on clear days. Their outdoor gazebo makes for the perfect outdoor ceremony location as well and can accommodate large groups. There are indoor ballrooms and spaces as well that would work beautifully for receptions.

2. Canmore Nordic Centre (Cornerstone Theatres)- Located on the outskirts of town, the centre is in a prime location and just a 5 minute drive to the gorgeous Quarry Lake as well as a secret waterfall (I swear, only us locals know about it so don’t tell anyone!) There are multiple locations on the grounds where you can hold your ceremony, each offering a spectacular view. Indoors, there is a private banquet room with large windows that offers up amazing views of the mountains as well. I absolutely love photographing the Nordic Centre- it is such a gem in the Bow Valley.

3. Stewart Creek Golf- You don’t have to be a golfer to enjoy this gorgeous location. With a beautiful outdoor tent to shield you from hot summer sun or protect you from snow in the winter, the ceremony location is absolutely beautiful with pine trees as a backdrop. I can’t recommend this spot enough, it’s the perfect balance of feeling like you’re in nature and still having the amenities and option to be shielded from the elements. I’m DYING to cover a summer wedding here!

4. Bear and Bison Country Inn- This quaint mountain lodge is the perfect spot for laidback gatherings with a smaller guest count. You can reserve the lodge to yourselves and have all of your favourite people around you for your entire stay. Their outdoor ceremony location has a gazebo that makes for a cute backdrop (or to shield you from snow for winter elopements!) Having worked with Bear and Bison many times, I can say they’ve always helped couples to have stress-free elopements or micro-weddings and I ALWAYS look forward to working with them! The best staff and tastiest food.

5. Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge- Tucked away deeper in Kananaskis, this beautiful mountain lodge has a lot to offer. Although there are indoor options for ceremonies, there are so many unique outdoor spaces that offer spectacular views. The lodge itself is also beautiful and makes for great photos, plus it’s always top-notch service there. This link goes over what they offer in their wedding packages:

6. Mount Engadine Lodge- Just over an hour away from Canmore, this beautiful lodge is tucked away smack-dab in the middle of the mountains and offers stellar 360 degree views. The medow just behind the lodge has a sprawling view in every season, with lush greenery during the summertime. In terms of scenery, Engadine is hard to beat! To view more photos of the lodging and facilities available, head to their website below to browse their offerings.

7. Canmore Golf and Curling club- Sitting at the edge of Canmore but still within a convenient walking distance of downtown, the outdoor patio offers up an incredible view of the mountains and a great space for a small to midsized ceremony. The attached Rundleview room is a large space that can accommodate large groups for a reception.

8. Quarry Lake – Quarry Lake is a gorgeous spot with the famous Ha Ling mountain towering overhead. It tends to be a bit more of a busy area especially on weekends, but for good reason. This spot offers views of the lake, thick forested areas, and an overall fantastic view of the mountains. It’s a short 5 minute drive from downtown. As a note, this may not be the best area if you have any guests with mobility issues if you’re planning to have the ceremony on top of the hill. Also be advised that it’s a busy area, especially on weekends.

9. Kananaskis Country Club – Tucked away in Kananaskis apx. 45 minutes from Canmore, this country club is a great option for larger gatherings as their indoor space can accommodate large groups and has a great space for a dance floor if you’re looking to throw-down for your reception. The club is conveniently located a short drive away from many other scenic areas that make for great photos (Wedge Pond is one of my favourites, pictured below.) Contact them directly for more information regarding bookings.

10. Somewhere more off the beaten path – Alright, alright. A bit of a copout answer, I know! If you’re wanting somewhere a little more unique and personalized to what you’re looking for, I have a personal list of secret hidden-gem spots deeper in the mountains. Those are kept privately for clients to reduce traffic and the impact to those areas and I wouldn’t recommend any large scale gathering to use a non-designated site. I’ve spent endless hours exploring these locations to find the PERFECT places for smaller scale weddings and elopements and work with my couples to figure out the best personalized ceremony location for them. In these areas, I suggest not setting up chairs or other décor so as to not disturb the scenery and to leave no trace. Shameless self promotion, but I’d love to help you and your partner pick the perfect location (and photograph it, of course.)

Here’s a gallery of some of my fav elopement and microwedding locations. Clients get full access to my locations guide:

Honourable mentions of some other great options for outdoor ceremony locations:

-Cornerstone Theatre (multiple options + indoor options)

-The Malcom Hotel

-Canmore Ranch

-Rundleview Parkette

-Canmore Miners' Hall

I hope this list was helpful for you, here’s the point where I shamelessly promote myself as a photographer. Here’s a short video that will give you a good idea of what kind of weirdo I am:
